Adoption

How it works.

Screening Process

  • Step 1

Identify the name and description of the rescue cat or kitten you are interested in adopting.

  • Step 2

Call our adoption hotline at (716) 652-6051 to determine if you and our rescue cat are a good fit based on the known history of the cat and put in an application.

  • Step 3

Once verbal approval is provided to you, a volunteer will be reaching out directly to schedule a mutually agreeable time to meet at the adoption site to perform the adoption.

Rest assured that all Second Chance adoptable rescues are:

  • Tested for Feline Leukemia/FIV

  • Spay/Neutered

  • Micro-Chipped

  • Vaccinated

  • Dewormed

  • Flea Control Applied

What to Bring

  • We ask an adoption donation of $150 which may be paid by cash or check made out to Second Chance Sheltering Network. No credit or debit cards are accepted.

  • To confirm your identity, we require you to present a valid driver's license or government photo ID at the time of the adoption.

  • There will be some paperwork to complete, so please be prepared to read and sign our adoption rules and disclosures.

  • At the time of adoption please bring a plastic cat carrier to transport your new family member home. We do not allow our rescue cats to be transported in cardboard carriers.

Post-Adoption Process

  • We love sharing success stories with our community and request that all of our rescues be photographed with their new forever parents.

  • Once you have taken your new family member home you will receive a communication from one of our volunteers to check in on how things are going. Additionally, home visits may take place to ensure everyone is settling in.

  • PS - we love updates! Don’t forget to follow us on social media and send in photos of your new family member.
